Who is behind Belau?
Belau is an electronica duo: Peter Kedves and Krisztian Buzas, in the live perfromances it’s a four piece band.
Where does your stage name come from?
That is an old story that comes from our young ages. When we were kids we were really into geography and know all the capitals of the countries around the world by heart. We discovered Palau’s island, which is a small country on the Pacific Ocean and somehow the name and the culture there remained an inspiration throughout the years. The inhabitants call Palau a different name: it’s Belau. Someday we gonna play there, I am sure about that.
Belau is a duo, so two people together to renovate the music panorama. Why have you decided to create a music project and, before that, when did you have your first approach into the music world?
We started to playing on instruments around 16 years old but, separately and 4-5 years ago, we talked a lot that would be great to have some kind of triphop-electronica project… and that is Belau.
There are a lot of names in the electronic music, probably the nearest to your style is Bonobo. Who are you inspired from?
Our main inspiration is travelling. Right before the virus crisis, we were almost always on the road, visited many great cities and met a lot of people. It was really a shame when we had to cancel the album release tour as well. But to be honest we could be influenced by many films, series, photos, adventures or just hanging with our friends. Our common favourite is, for example, a series called “Dark”.
You purpose is to be a shelter for the modern human. What is the aim of your project and what is the message that you want people to receive listening to your songs?
Belau tries to provide shelter for the modern human through their music – representing the path to self-awareness through the depth of the individual – by making modern and elegant electronic beats with longing lyrics driven for the solace of the mind. Forever inspired by the fundamental elements of the nature, especially the infinite sea.

Belau’s sound is a blend of electronic music and live music. We use 808 subs, self-collected tunes, exotic intruments like marimba, and many percussion instruments.
Your journey into music started in the 2015. What is changed since then?
Fortunately many people getting known our music played in several countries and we developed the whole project: the sounds, the live permormances, the videos, and hopefully it’s just the begining of our journey.
“Colourwave” is your last album, a multi-layered concept release in which the nature is leitmotif. How did this project come about?
First we made make the chords and beats after the vocal harmonies and last the lyrics with our guest vocalists, all song is a different case, a different story, how it builds up.
We asked all the featured vocalists for take part in our journey, and we’re really glad that we have songs with these super talaented artists. It’s also a concept that we always work with females. Writing songs with them was really different with all of them. We didn’t meet some of them, but we talked about belau, the concept, and our thoughts before the creative process.
